I just installed GIT on my network and my friend installed GIT on his. We are attempting to connect SOFII

Here is what we did.

1.) We both set our LAN IP Address 192.168.0.1
2.) we both set our subnet mask = 255.255.255.0
3.) My computers Local IP address = 192.168.0.7 my network cant go beyond 192.168.0.20
4.) His Local IP address = 192.168.0.100 his network is between 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.150

5.) I set my GIT to listen and accept all connections on the same port, 213

6.) He set his GIT to UDP Fatstest on port 213 and TCP connect on port 213. both With my (Host) IP Address

7. we both setup forward all udp/tcp ports 1-212 and 217-65535.

Questions:

Am I missing anything?
Can I ping his Local IP address to test if we connect? Or how can I check?

any help would be greatly appreciated!

your step 1 should be different ... there should be nothing with the same address between both LANs. example, one router should be 192.168.0.1 and the other router should be 192.168.0.10...and all connected PCs should have different addresses between them.

step 2 is good
step 3 is good
step 4... didn't you say you set both LANs to 192.168.0.1? if he set his router to 192.168.0.100 then there shouldn't be any conflict. that should be good.
steps 5 & 6... no need to listen - set GIT for port 213, method UDP...same with your friend - port 213, method udp.

step 7...don't forward 1-212.
and don't forward 217-65535.
if you do, you could have lag.

both of you do need to login to your routers and forward udp 213 to your computers.

SOFII uses UDP port 20100. forward only 20100 in the GIT Configuration tcp/udp section.

GIT advanced config:
checkmark only these:
ethernet ii, 802.2, arp, zlib, tcp, udp, icmp, match source port, don't send routable.

that should be all. you can test by pinging your friend's local lan address. better yet, ping his router's local lan address - his pc's firewall may refuse your ping.

We can now ping each others network and local machines. :D

Here is what we are having problems with now.

I start a game and he can see my game but is unable to connect.

He starts a game and I am unable to see his game.


Do you have any idea why he can see my game and I can't see his?
Do you have any idea why he can't connect to my game?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

hmm. personally, what I would do is run a packet sniffer and observe the game's connectivity behavior. but i do not have a copy of SOFII!

get a hold of one of your techie friends, and use Network Spy or Ethereal and observe the network while trying to connect a game. I have done that with plenty of games & apps.

that's the best i can do - I would volunteer to set up GIT & Network Spy and check things out for myself, but i do not have SOFII.

SOF2 is working great now

Thanks for your help. I went out and user network spy and foound out it was a prolem with the PC on the other network. We tried another PC and everything is working fine now.
