RA2 again^^

Postby Weiser Onkel » Thu Jun 09, 2005 6:09 am

hi,
i think i tried everything i could find here, but still ist doen't work for me. :-(

I've got a winXP home pc behind a router, ip: 192.168.0.2
My friend has got a winXP home without a router, he had, 192.168.0.2, too, so i told him to switch to 192.168.0.9, as he's got no network anyway, only a single networkcard

ingame, he can see me in the lobby, but i can see him only, if we choose the right devices in the options
but we can't speak to one another or start a game, he can see, if i start a game and join it, but i can't see him^^

we chose Ethernet 802.2 an network number 00000000
in GIT we used port 81 and forwarded all sockets
in the advanced configuration, we used the standart options plus Forward ARP and Also Match Source Port

thx Weiser Onkel

try having one person use a different network number. when i was getting doom IPX to work, nothing would work except if someone changed their network number. doesn't make a lot of sense, but it did work.

I suggest either you or your friend change to a different subnet, meaning you set up your router to 192.168.1.* and leave your friend on 192.168.0.*

Perhaps the NAT is getting confused since packets destined for your network from his appear to be on the same local subnet and may therefore never get forwarded.. it could explain the echoing problem some people get?

Worth a shot...

RA2 Easy.

You n00bs,

for RA2 its an IPX game...

that means *censored* all subnetting and all NAT and IP packet bullshit.

your dealing with IPX here.

forward all IPX sockets.

use the advanced settings here for both connections
the only options that should be ticked are: (for strictly ra2 that is)

* IEE 802.2
* Zlib (if u want compression)
* IPX
* Dont send unicast

thats it.

make sure that both lan connections on either side, forward the ports correctly, and allow the git ports through the firewall, also note that you need to edit your IPX protocol settings and change all participants network ID's to 0, and force the frame type to 802.2 instead of autodetect, and set the internal network number to all 0's , thats it, works both ways, no more BS cant see another person etc. should work on any network device in ra2, although sometimes helps if u chose the mac address that the other person see's in the GIT 'known hosts' list.

Goodluck n00bs.

One other tip for RA2 (incl yuri's revenge) is that ensure that no user your trying to tunnel with, uses a n00b nickname. it causes alot of trouble. keep your nicknames in the lobby to simple alphabetical chars only, i am specifically referring to "space"'s causing trouble. so use names like

"nooblamer"
"maxnuub"
"dotan00b"
"betsy"

and NOT

"I whinge alot"
"RA2 doesnt work for me"
"help me! im a noob"

If you dont, then you MAY encounter problems which may lead you to think you have network issues. packets from one side not getting through, people appearing, dissapearing.. text messages not arriving most of the time etc.

Goodluck nooblets

PS. Dont send unicast isnt necessary with RA2, so omg rofl lol
only 3 settings...

* IEEE 802.2
* Zlib (if u want compression)
* IPX

omfg lol

hey there you wise guy sumeetkpatel, looks like not only others are nOObs.......you are too coz ra2 work for me only on diffrent networks numbers as poseyjmac wrote before, not as u wrote to use same network number "0" and btw: "your dealing with IPX here" bah ... man IPX is last phase of packet transfer... all IPX data must be sent over internet by GIT connection using TCP or UDP protocol. so u MUST do port forwarding on ur router just for GIT port (by default 213,214, and so on, but Weiser Onkel uses port 81 for GIT connection so he must forward all packets incoming on port 81 to his local machine........) so dont tell UR!! bullshit like: "that means *censored* all subnetting and all NAT and IP packet bullshit".....

I personally tested ra2 on my lan on such IPX settings:
(I dont run it by GIT but soon I will ;) )

__PROTOCOL_SETTINGS_|___MACHINE_1____|___MACHINE_2____|

IPX/SPX/NetBIOS_______|________________|________________|
|___Internal network nr..:|_00000001_______|_00000002_______|
|___Frame type:...............|_Ethernet 802.2___|_Ethernet 802.2___| --> RA2: see in lobby, CAN join game
|___Network number:......|_00000001_______|_00000002_______|

IPX/SPX/NetBIOS_______|________________|________________|
|___Internal network nr..:|_00000001_______|_00000002_______|
|___Frame type:...............|_Ethernet 802.2___|_Ethernet 802.2___| --> RA2: see in lobby, CAN NOT join game
|___Network number:......|_00000001_______|_00000001_______|

IPX/SPX/NetBIOS_______|________________|________________|
|___Internal network nr..:|_00000001_______|_00000001_______|
|___Frame type:...............|_Ethernet 802.2___|_Ethernet 802.2___| --> RA2: see in lobby, CAN NOT join game
|___Network number:......|_00000001_______|_00000002_______|

IPX/SPX/NetBIOS_______|________________|________________|
|___Internal network nr..:|_00000001_______|_00000002_______|
|___Frame type:...............|_autodetect______|_autodetect_______| --> RA2: see in lobby, CAN join game
|___Network number:......|_n/a_____________|_n/a____________|

IPX/SPX/NetBIOS_______|________________|________________|
|___Internal network nr..:|_00000001_______|_00000002_______|
|___Frame type:...............|_autodetect_______|_Ethernet 802.2___| --> RA2: see in lobby, CAN join game
|___Network number:......|_n/a_____________|_00000002_______|

and so on.....
btw I tested it on Ethernet 802.3 and it worked too (with proper settings ofcorz).

EDIT

bah after reading this http://www.planetcnc.com/features/techt ... workGuide/
i start wondering why they wrote:
"Remember: Network Number, same - Internal Network Number, different."
In my tests it doesnt work :/, and after some tests again, I finaly found it out:

"NETWORK NUMBER" CAN BE THE SAME (or maybe should), BUT IT MUST BE DIFFRENT FROM ANY NUMBER OF "INTERNAL NETWORK NUMBERS" used by our LAN MACHINES!!,
thats why when my "Internal Network Numbers" were 00000001 and 00000002, I must use some other numbers than 00000001 and 00000002 for "Network Number" (for example: 00000000)

I also tests Frame types: Ethernet II and Ethernet SNAP and all works fine too for RA2 :).

omg your such a n00b lol

I have played RA2 over many machines through GIT, many many machines of many many different configurations.

My instructions are clear. Your just confused.

n00b.

PS. 'My configuration' works for tiberian sun too. may work for starcraft too, might need to forward additional IPX frame types.
