GIT appears to have trouble detecting my network card

Postby cid » Sat Feb 19, 2005 9:08 pm

When I start GIT I get the error;
"Unable to open packet device.
Please select a different one under Advanced Configuration options."

When I go to change the network device selected in the advanced options all I see displayed in the drop down are two gibberish values;

0 - ????????????????r??????????????????????? ((null))
1 - ?????????r???????????%?????????????????????4????????? ((null))

My network adapter is this:
Intel(R) PRO/1000 CT Network Connection
An integrated network adapter on my motherboard.

Any suggestions?

Search forum for more details.
Either uninstall Winpcap 3.1 beta and install Winpcap 3.0, or install GIT 0.99 BETA 4.

The ???????? strings are caused by a unicode/ansi difference in Winpcap 3.1beta and requires GIT 0.99 to see the proper strings. This has been known for a while and there are other posts about this already.
