Hi, i am on a univercity network, and currently use a http tunnel, but this proves to be a pain in the ass for games, as i have to use Socks 5 vetion of UDP. Anyway, i noticed in order to use GIT you need to have both LAN's configured using the same subnet mask, i'm connected to the uni server, but in order to access the network i need to dial-up via the univercitys vpn, otherwise i can't do anything, my port tunnel works fine going through the telnet port 23, i need to know, the other persons network, does it need to be set to the subnet mask used by the windows vpn, or the one used by the router that connects me to the main network? or the subnet mask which is used by the port tunnel, i can connect through my http tunnel, using GIT set to use socks 5 perfectly fine, i can send packets, and recieve packets ok, but i cannot ping the other network due to the subnets being different, please advise, and if i make no sence, try to help anyway  , thanks.

seems your connectivity is fine
all you need is a network settings hack

i suggest installing ms loopback adapter and bridging it to your http tunnel nic. it'll install a new nic called "microsoft mac bridge virtual nic" or "mac bridge miniport" ... set that to the address/mask you need, and use git to sniff on that. works for me - my circumstance is different though. for now i am on a wireless lan. i have a usb wireless dongle which can't go into promiscuous mode. the bridge nic (loopback-wireless) can.

Thanks for the advice, i can see how that could in theory work, the only problem is as i connect via vpn, i cann't bridge the microsoft loopback with the vpn, and can only do so with the device that connects the vpn, think of my NIC as a gateway which allows the vpn to connect that gives me access to everything, in order for the loopback to work it needs to interface with the vpn, and you can't bridge the non-physical loopback divice to the non-physical vpn connection. If i bridge the loopback device to my NIC, the uni network doesn't issue me with an ip address, so the vpn cannot connect, this probably has somthing to do with the mac address filtering on the network. Either way, you hit the problem on the head, but still no solution, is there any other way to "Hack/Fake" an ip address?
