Chances are it is a problem with WinpCap if you experience crashes or failure to open devices. You can try uninstalling WinpCap, rebooting, reinstalling WinpCap, then rebooting again. WinpCap can be picky about being installed correctly, especially if you don't reboot. You can also try making sure you have the latest drivers for all your cards and no virus/trojan/spyware/etc that is infecting winsock.dll or other network related files, as some specifically target those files even in order to intercept your network traffic.
I happen to have both of those two cards (nForce2+Realtek 8139A) in my test machine and know that they both work fine with GIT and other WinpCap based programs.

Yes, I had an old version of WinpCap(3.0) so I updated to the latest and got it working again. BTW, this program rocks =]
