Problem With GIT and Theme Hospital

Postby jwenchoo » Sun Nov 27, 2005 9:16 am

Hi all, I have some questions and problems and I have someone can guide me along.

Anyway, did anyone manage to play a game of theme hospital using git?

please response.

I have installed IPX protocol on my com and my gf's com(Both using Win XP). (weare not staying together but I understand GIT works to link 2 coms at different locations up so that a game can be played either through TCP/IP or IPX)

We both have specify the framework as 802.3 and use the same network number for example 0000213.

after doing the configurations for GIT on my com and my gf's com, and upon checking the connection status, I see something like this:

202.156.236.121:213 (udp) - UP since Sun Nov 27 22:55:58 2005
last packet received from 202.156.236.121
last packet received at Sun Nov 27 23:24:34 2005

my gf's connection status states this:

59.189.201.46:213 (udp) - UP since Sun Nov 27 22:56:18 2005
last packet forwarded at Sun Nov 27 23:12:12 2005

I will see the time changing whenever I refresh it status and thus I believe, this shows that the connection from my pc to my gf's pc is up and running as packets are transmitting from her side to my side successfully.

So in this case, I am like a 'server' right? as she is connected to my com.

however, in the game Theme Hospital, under IPX network, it states that there is no IPX network found. Under DplayIPX, we also cant see each other, regardless I did create a session or not.

I am at my ends wit, and after days of google-ing on more info, I decided to request for help here.

Would any kind soul please help me?

I seriously wanna play Theme Hospital over a network.

Thank you.

This looks like you are forwarding packets from yourself, to yourself.

Both sides should show "last packet received" or that side isn't receiving any tunnel traffic from the other side.
You should be receiving packets from other IP addresses other then yourself. Maybe I misunderstand what you posted, but if the IP address you are receiving packets from is that own machine's IP address, then GIT is not configured correctly.
You would do best to use 802.2 frames (set in Windows network settings, not in GIT) as 802.3 is the only choice that is not really an official standard. 802.2 frames are sent on the network inside of 802.3 frames, and the data payload, IPX in this case, rides in the 802.2 frame. Only some really old Novell implementations decided it was a good idea to stick the data payload directly in an 802.3 frame. Using IPX directly in 802.3 frames can cause network problems when a router or other device can't properly detect the frames, and decides to drop packets. It's not likely to really cause you any problem one way or another, as long as you all use the same frame type on all computers, but 802.2 is really the best choice.

hmmm, ok. I shall try it once more. If it still cant work then i guess i would have to set up VPN network that allows IPX protocol to play the game. :)

Hi

I've managed to get the lan game working. I'm running Windows XP SP2. I have a Linksys WRT54G router running DD-WRT. My notebook is connected over Wifi and my desktop over Ethernet. Go to Control Panel -> Network Connections. Open the properties for each network connection. Open the IPX properties dialog and set the IPX Frame Type to Ethernet II and the Network number to 00000001. If IPX is not in the list, then install it (Install -> Protocol -> NWLink IPX). You have to restart Windows for this change to take effect. In Theme Hospital use the DPlayIPX multiplayer option. One of the players must create a session. This session should immediately show up on the other players' screens. The host (player who created the session) can choose a scenario and start the game.

I haven't played over the internet, but I'm guessing it should work with GIT and these settings.

I hope this helps.

Enjoy!
