Using GIT for Shadow Warrior IPX

Postby psanderson » Fri Sep 30, 2005 11:20 pm

Hi! I hope you can help me.

My wife and I love playing Shadow Warrior co-operative. We used to play on
two computers running Windows 98 and it worked fine. I was excited when I
found out that Wanton Destruction was available. However my wife has a new
computer which runs Windows XP. It runs Shadow Warrior really well using
VDMSound (with low-level network support enabled), but I haven't been able
to get a network game going. We play other IPX games (like Starcraft and
Doom) and they work fine. I tested the connection with GIT and both
computers are sending and receiving fine when each setup program is trying
to find the other player, but the game won't start.

This is a line from the 'incoming' log on the Windows XP computer:

Rat: hw:00:60:67:43:ab:4b IEEE802.2 IPX NLSP/OldIPX
to:00000000.ffffffffffff:8849 from:00000000.00606743ab4b:8849 'ok'

And this is a line from the 'incoming' log on the Windows 98 computer:

Oem-a012dc71621: hw:00:60:67:43:ab:4b IEEE802.2 IPX NLSP/OldIPX
to:00000000.ffffffffffff:8849 from:00000000.00606743ab4b:8849 'ok'

Both computers are certainly sending and receiving IPX packets. However, the
Windows XP computer detects NetBIOs and the Windows 98 computer doesn't.

This is what the Windows XP computer says when you run setup:

NetBIOS detected - local address: 00016cc3daac
Registering NetBIOS name as "GAME8849" - ok, id#2
Attempting to find all players for a 2 player network game. Press ESC to
exit.
Looking for network players.................................

And this is what the Windows 98 computer says when you run setup:

IPX Network Initialized
Using socket number 0x8849

Attempting to find all players for a 2 player network game. Press ESC to
exit.
Looking for network players.............

Could the problem be that the Windows 98 computer is not detecting NetBIOS?
If so, can the Windows XP computer be forced to just detect an OldIPX
connection?
