Is there any chance that GIT is open source or that the source code will be released?

The reason I ask is that my friend has a Linux box set up as his firewall. I'd like to run GIT on my Win2k machine and have it connect to his LAN to play Starcraft. I figure that he could write a daemon to unwrap my packets and put them onto his LAN and his firewall could wrap the packets up and send them to me.

GIT is not open source but the protocol is fairly simple and I would be available to assist anybody writing a linux port.
