GIT like HTTP-Tunnel?: steam- dod, day of defeat

Postby saikocat » Fri Apr 08, 2005 7:38 pm

Hello, and thanks for taking the time to check this out
So can GIT work like http-tunnel, only it can also work with UDP?
I was able to download halflife2 using http-tunnel and sockscap but I can't see any game servers with it.
I'm behind a proxy server where they have several ports blocked
I'm trying to play Day of defeat over Steam and configured UDP ports 1200, 27000-27015 and TCP ports 27030-27039, but I wasn't sure if I have to configure my proxy somehow
Do i need to use SocksCap V2 to run Steam.exe?
As you can tell I know very little about networking and would very much appreciate any help
Thanks

I don't think you need Git in your scenario. Git is designed to create a virtual LAN among physically separate LANs. Think of Git as running a cable between uplink ports for each LAN...almost.

By capturing specified ports, encapsulating and forwarding traffic along a Git<--->Git tunnel, Git is designed to allow you to play games, use apps, do pretty much anything, in that application's LAN mode.

Most games have various multiplayer gaming modes... Internet, Direct connect, and LAN. Most likely, different ports are used for each. GIT comes into play when you want to network in LAN mode, with 1 or more persons who aren't connected to your LAN.

What you need is to properly configure your proxy with those ports you mentioned. I don't use Steam or sockscap at all, so I can't say anything about those.
