Starcraft Works, but Nothing Else does

Postby vilation » Thu Feb 03, 2005 10:24 pm

Okay, so after much editing and changing and reading I finally fixed the problem with Star Craft. Altering the Source IP seemed to help for some reason, but now... Nothing Else works... We've been trying games such as Rise Of Nations, Starwars: Rebellion, Risk 2, and many others, but nothing else works... any reason why this may be and is there any way to correct the problem?

Alter Source IP will help you in very little setups.
WC3 (And thus, maybe other Blizzard games that use the same protocol) can benefit because they will typically route everything over the internet.
Many games you will probably need to set up the LANs on each side with the same subnet and no IP conflicts and not use the alter source IP, and everything will work too.

Okay... well... everything is working properly there are no IP conflicts and as far as I can see everything is the way it is supposed to be in regards to the Read Me file with in GIT, but yet it still won't work...

Here's the internal network setup for both networks

Network 1

Router Internal IP 192.168.1.200

Computer 1 IP 192.168.1.206

External Ip Adress X.X.X.X

Network 2

Routher Internal IP 192.168.0.1

Computer 1 IP 192.168.0.2

External Ip Address X.X.X.X

Both computers are connecting successfully through git with the computer on network 1 being "Listen for all TCP Connects" and computer 1 on network 2 being "TCP Connect. Both computers are on 214 and there is no problem getting either to connect fully as far as GIT can tell us. However we cannot see eachother on a NETSTAT or IPCONFIG. I'm wondering if we are supposed to see each other on a netstat or ipconfig and just can't or if its just impossible to see each other on netstat.

We are forwarding all the appropriate ports and there is no confusion about our connection status. Anything may help

Make sure you are using GIT 0.99 BETA 4.
Try to use UDP and not TCP for the GIT connection because TCP will cause big delays with retransmissions and ack packets.
ipconfig and netstat are not really goinng to help you here, but ping would help if you forward ICMP and ARP, PING should work just fine.

UDP does not work for some reason or another... TCP is the only way we can get a solid connection. I am using V 0.99 Beta 4. Is there any reason why its not working other than that? And why won't UDP work? We're on the same port and we are using the correct IPs. Yet its still not working a bit with anything other than Starcraft

u said ur internal ips are differnt from what u described... 192.168.1.206 and 192.168.0.2 ... well im no expert on this program.. but i think your problem might be, at least partly, that ur third numbers are differnt and they need to be the same, ie: xxx.xxx.(1/0).xxx need to be both 1 or 0.

If GIT works with port 214 TCP but not port 214 UDP, then the issue is with your router or firewalls on one or both sides not forwarding port 214 to your internal computer properly.

What TheCompGuru said is also correct. If you are trying to get all computers on each side on the same LAN, your setup will not work if you use the netmask of 255.255.255.0 on each side.
If you use 255.255.0.0 or even 255.255.254.0, it would work, because 192.168.1.x and 192.168.0.x could be on the same network with those subnet masks. If you are using 255.255.255.0, you must change one of the sides network prefix to match the others.

Alright now we can see created games in every game we try, however we are still arriving at a problem of being able to join them. Could it be an unfocused port? Although firewalls shouldn't affect it as far as my router is concerned due to DMZ, and my firewall on my machine is turned off. Which ports are used in the games Risk II and Starwars Rebellion or is there a program I can download to find out the port numbers?

Most of all is there any other reason why we shouldn't be able to join each others games?
