games send more packets where thinks they re in a lan ?

hello

Do you know if games are configured to send more information where they "think" they are in local (lan). (more acurate position, ect)
somebody notice that ?
i played cossacks few years ago and was ok in lan by not by internet(but maybe it was game bad design)
