GIT let me do this, but is it recommended? i have a dynamic ip, but i also have the no-ip.com service, so it will always resolve my ip when it changes.

Yes, it is designed to handle even dynamic DNS services and will only resolve the host when the tunnel is started, so simply disabling and re-enabling the tunnel will cause the hostname to be re-looked up. It is recommened to use a hostname if you have one, both for the NAT settings and for the connect/list settings in the normal configuration dialog.
