C & C Generals yet again

Postby billlagr » Sat Jul 17, 2004 6:30 pm

Hi all,
trying to get a 1 vs 1 player game running over GIT.
We are both using NAT routers (Identical models, BTW) and have had limited success. We can both join and chat in the multiplayer lobby, and if one person starts a game, the other person can join and their name will appear in the player list, but they timeout and drop afeter a short period of time.
Settings we are using are -
On the router, port 213 forwarded (We initially had all ports forwarded, but setting port 213 only didn't seem to change anything)
Both routers are NAT - My internal network is 192.168.2.x, friends is 192.168.1.x
On GIT -
Forward to what hosts -
<WAN IP address>:213 (TCP Listen) on mine, (TCP connect) on other machine. I dont know why, but UDP didnt seem to agree with Generals
Forward all TCP/UDP ports above and below GIT's range
Advanced config-
First 3 frame types enabled
Forward TCP. UDP, ICMP
Only if broadcst off
recieve only off
Alter source IP for NAT is on, From hostname 192.168.2.x and To hostname is the WAN IP, From hostname is 192.168.1.x on other machine.

Any suggestions?

Got it to work..

A friend of mine and I managed to get Generals to work - FINALLY..
a lot of Ethereal snooping and settings tweaks and ultimately this is
what worked..

We were forwarding ICMP and UDP which appears to be all that C&C
needs for LAN-style play.. but GIT wasn't forwarding the ICMPs, even
ping to each other wasn't working.. when we enabled TCP forwarding
BINGO. I think GIT has a bug where it's not working right with ICMP
forwarding..

Also, we finally broke down and set both our subnets to the same c
class - so if his IP's are in the 192.168.2.XXX range, then I changed
mine to match in my router and across my network.

It was laggy, but it worked.
