bomberman just over LAN

Hi,
I apologize if this is not the exact forum I should be posting this to...
I have atomic bomberman (1997) and we are 2 gamers who'd like to play against each other.
The network options in bomberman are IPX, Modem and Serial.

This home network is a straight-forward private IP network 192.168.1.x
behind a router/ADSL modem ( win XP sp3 and Vista SP1 ).

I tried to do "Create network game" from 1 PC and "Join network" from the other but to no success...
I think I need to install some IPX emulation maybe ?

What operating system do you use?
If xp, there are IPX installation threads in these forums.

Read the last post in that thread. it talks about installing IPX in Windows XP.
