Tunnel estabilished, I can see packets but not working

Postby Sierp » Sun Jan 11, 2009 5:19 pm

Hello,

The main problem - connection looks like working, I can see all packets but my card is not receiving packets from GIT (I think)
This is the situation I have

PC1 - XP
IP 192.168.1.2, gateway 192.168.1.1, mask 255.255.255.0

PC2 - Vista
IP 192.168.1.50, gateway 192.168.1.254, mask 255.255.255.0

No IP conflicts occures.
WinPcap and GIT on both PCs - newest
Port 213 UDP forwarded from both routers to LAN IP's.
Firewalls off.

Checked in Advanced conf. are

IEEE 802.2
IEEE 802.3
Ethernet II
Forward ARP
ICMP

In Configuration all I did is added public IP of friend's router with 213/UDP port.
The same at other side (my public IP used).

Connection status is UP.

Now, when I try to ping my friend's private IP, I can see in wireshark,
that my packet is going out (from my private IP to his private IP), and
is coming in! But ping says "timeout".
I really can't understand this. I can see in logfiles in forwarded
and incoming sections that tunnel is working, but for some reason my
ethernet card is not taking his responses.
If he tries to ping my IP, I don't see in wireshark any packet....

When I did try with TCP connection (after checking TCP in adv. conf.
and proper port range in config.) I did see his packets coming in,
but with wrong checksum.

What is very strange - I can ping router (LAN IP, 192.168.1.254) at his side!

I would say - something at routing table at his side, but in this case
I wouldn't see answer from his IP on my ping.

Any idea what could be wrong? I tried to change winpcap to 3.0 - nothing.

regards,

Sierp

Did you figure it out yet?
If not:
I suggest running a program listening on a tcp port, then have the other computer telnet to the other private IP on the program's listening port, to see if you can catch the packets in wireshark.
When I test tcp, I use vnc server on port 443 (so i can get out past weak firewalls) and have the other computer telnet to my private IP on port 443 to see if it reads the vnc greeting.
i am not sure why your ping was not successful.
I never checked 802.3 in advanced config. I use 802.2, eth II, arp, tcp, udp, icmp. I have not tested Git in months though, so i am rusty.
if you want to test with me, let me know and i'll set it up.

OK, so I tried with tcp listen/connect also - the same result.
Now I did some screenshots to let you know what I'm talking about.

Our config is mirrored, looks like this

My side is 192.168.1.2, my friends side is 192.168.1.50, both with /24 netmask.

Of course on the other side the other public IP is used in config.JPG
Then we did some testing - first with telnet from my friend to my computer local IP to 445 port.
You can see result here

As you can see, on my side packets, but with wrong TCP checksum - maybe this is why telnet is not working? I googled for tcp checksum and assumed, that this may be caused by TCP checksum offload, but in this case wireshark should print "checksum error" but telnet should work.

Then we tried again ping. First my friend pinged my local IP, as you can see below - I can see ICMP echo request, but without answer.
Then I've tried to ping my friend IP (192.168.1.50) - and I can see ICMP echo request, and then ICMP echo reply - but again, ping is not working, for some reason PING program don't get this reply.
You can see result here

Is it possible, that this is some kind of bug in GIT?
192.168.1.50 is Vista, 192.168.1.2 is XP, both with firewalls off.
