Windows XP and Restricted accounts

Postby dtm » Mon Mar 01, 2004 3:50 pm

When I lunch Morpheus with a restricted account in Windows XP, it show the message "Invalid Permissions" and close the program.
With a admin account the software work fine.
How I can solve the problem?

Give the restricted user R/W access to HKLM in the registry, or use a power user or higher account. We will be considering restricted accounts in a future version of Morpheus.

Hi Ark,
Thank you for the answer. Using a power user the problem disappears but it is not a good solution for me.
Can you help me and say to me which is the key to access?
I changed the permissions of key HKLM/Software/MorpheusSoftware but it didn't work.
Regards,

R/W access to HKLM/Software/MorpheusSoftware + HKCR should work. You need HKCR (which is an alias to a subkey in HKLM) because the program will insist on verifying its icon/file associations.

You say that the user needs to be given read/write access to HKLM/Software/MorpheusSoftware and HKCR. I have searched for all keys, values, and data that contain "Morpheus". I have assigned read/write access to the user for those keys and their subkeys, yet the user still gets the "Invalid permissions" error. Exactly what keys need to be accessible by a normal user for Morpheus to work? Much like a previous post on another topic regarding permissions, it is unacceptable in our organization to just give users power user or administrator rights.

Thanks for any help.

There is a new revision of v1.85 on our website as of today that should allow the program to operate as a limited user. You will still need to be administrator to install the program and to activate the program when purchased.

The new version is revision 3555 (v1.85.3555) and the file size of the installer has been reduced to 2,603,443 bytes (the new installer uses 7zip compression instead of bzip2, to significantly reduce its size)

Thanks for the info about the new program. The user that wanted it had just downloaded it the other day. I will checkout the new version and see how it works.

Thanks again.

I downloaded the software this afternoon, and that version did work properly.

Thanks again.
