Adjusting Image Size

Postby drmonty » Thu Oct 26, 2006 9:46 pm

I was trying to create a panoramic image where I have 2 5"x5" images and want to end up with 1 5"x10" image. I was able to combine the 2 images with the software but the image width is serverly compressed. I did not see where the layout can be changed to this format. Is there a way for me to do this?

Which program are you using specifically? I'm not sure what you mean by combine two images like that side by side.
Morpheus programs deal only in pixels, not inches. You can set the layout for your entire timeline to any size in pixels in the Timeline Options window.

Adjusting size

Postby drmonty » Fri Oct 27, 2006 10:16 am

I adjusted the pixel size as suggested. I jsut doubled the normal 240 pixels to 480 and got what I wanted. However, the image quality was not as good ss the originals. I am working with panoramic xrays in grayscale, but have lost much of the diagnostic quality of the 2 separate images. Is this normal?

How big are the originals? Morpheus by default will autosize your layout to fit within 320x240 so that it can be uploaded to websites or emailed faster. You can always change that to any size you want.

Adjusting image size

My scanner has a transparancy adapter that only allows me to scan images of 5x5" while the xray is 5x12. I need to be able to make a hardcopy of the entire 5x10 iimage for snail mail purposes. After reading your suggestion to change the pixels, I adjusted the layout to 480x240 and that ppeared to provide the image size for hardcopy that I wanted. Unfortuantely, the quality is not ideal. The image sizes were 845K and 780K and the combined image size via morpheous is 104K.

You seem to be missing that while you think your source pictures are 5"x5" and 5"x12", Morpheus does not know or care about that. The pictures have a size in pixels, which is the amount of image data stored in them. For example, if you scanned at 100 DPI, a 5"x5" picture would be stored as 500x500 pixels, and the 500 pixels is all Morpheus can see and work with. If you scan the same 5"x5" at 200 DPI, then you result in a 1000x1000 pixel image. You need to know the pixels in the pictures you are working with and not pay any attention to inches or file size in KB, because neither of those measurements are looked at by Morpheus.

Image Size

Thank you for education. Since I scanned the images at 600 dpi, then the pixel size should be 3000x3000-, Is that correct? Can morpheus prodcue combined images in that range?

They should be 3000 pixels, yes, but you should double check them in any image editing program if you want to ensure the exact size. You can set the timeline width and height to 3000 each instead of 240 each, and you will get a lot more "clarity" out of the resulting mix, because of all the extra image data rendered.
I'm not really sure how you mean to combine images though, since Photo Mixes typically overlap pictures in the same area and blend parts of them together - they do not put them side by side.

Adjusting image size

The 2 images I am trying to stitch together have over lapping sections and by using the dots I was assuming that I would be able to restore my original image. Image looks much better at 3000x3000dpi.

Adjusting Image Size

I thought I had the process under control. However, I cannot view an image after rendering (saving?) the image. The name of the file is there but no data and only 2K. Obviously, I am doing something wrong. Can you help me again?

Same images as above--5x12" xray @600 dpi scanned in as jpeg in 2 segments. Using the dots to try to stich the 2 5x5 images at 600 dpi so that I have 1 computer image instead of 2.

No, those are the image you are starting with. When you render your timeline or individual frame, what file format are you selecting?

Image Size

As I said, after palacing and moving dots on both images, I set the size to 3000x3000 dpi, and then render as jpeg. Then when I try to view the image with windows viewer, nothing comes up. File size of the combined images is anywhere from 2K to 38K. My 2 original images were 900K and 1100K.

Could you upload the .aml file and original two images so that we can take a look at it in order to see better what is going on? You could try emailing them to support directly also.
