Question regarding preview

I have set up the dots on both pictures.
Why can I use the preview? It is not active............and does not play.............

Did you hide the Preview window? The play button in the menu is not usable if there is no preview window to play it in. You can toggle the window hidden by selecting Preview from the View menu.
